Problem registering for college classes ?

May 24, 2010 by

I usually do it online, but the system is not allowing me to. I went to register on campus, but the system wouldn’t let them do it either. It kept logging them out when they put in my student ID. Something must be wrong with my account because I have already been trying for four days. The woman doing registration was unwilling to help and told me to come back later. It is obviously a system error on my account. I’m going back tomorrow. What should I tell them to convince them to fix the problem? It seems like they don’t care and just dismiss my the problem. I’m really frustrated. :( Thanks!

I had the same problem, it ended being that my password had been re-set when they updated my info. It could be something simple like that or a hold on your acct. They can stop you from registering if you owe the school money from classes, or even a parking ticket. I would refuse to leave the office tomorrow until they fix the problem, or at the very least give you an explanation. Besides all they have to do is look up your account and they should be able to know whats wrong.

In your tool for registering for classes, you should see an icon or section for any “Holds” you might have on record. Check to see if anything is there. You can get a hold for any number of reasons: failure to pay, disciplinary action, etc.

If you don’t have any holds, go to the registrar’s office and make sure you’re still a student and you haven’t been deactivated in the system. If you are active, tell them this story (make it good — but don’t yell) and they should be able to help you.

The last resort is the University Ombudsman. This is the general fixer of problems and his job is to help students that can’t find the answer to their questions or are having a hard time with Univerisity bureaucracy.

If you have been experiencing problems for four days there is definitely something wrong with your account. I would suggest that when you go back, ask to speak with the Director of the division for some suggestion on how to resolve the problem. If I were you, I wouldn’t leave until I got someone to assist me with the registration issues.

I hope everything works out for you.

Go back tomorrow and tell the person at the Registrar’s Office that you need to get registered for your courses. If they are unwilling to help, contact your advisor and have him/her call or email the Registrar’s Office on your behalf.
